Surveillance of Poisons Information Centre Exposures, or SPICE, is the name of the clinical app and database used by the Australian Poisons Information Centres. SPICE allows Specialists in Poisons Information (SPIs) and clinical toxicologists to enter call data in real-time, as part of clinical record keeping processes.
SPICE vs APSI
SPICE is the clinical record keeping system, whereas APSI is the research databank and collaboration. APSI data is drawn from SPICE, but is a de-identified extract of poisons centre data, collected in our harmonised National Minimum Data Set (NMDS) format. APSI data can be used for research and public health purposes, according to our ethics and governance approvals, as outlined here.
